Devotion Time

Running Scared

In 2 Kings 6:14-17, we find a honest prayer by the prophet Elisha who has a very concerned servant.

“Alas, what should we do now?”

Many of us find ourselves in a similar place: A panicked, “What should we do now, Lord?”

Bravery Prayers

We may find ourselves in these places, and it can be hard to calm ourselves. This is the time, where we need our Christian community to pray for and encourage. Everyone is facing some sort of battle, and need God’s working power to overwhelm our circumstances. Our God is far more powerful than our fears and enemies.

“Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For our army is bigger than theirs!” Then Elisha prayed, “Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” And the Lord opened the young man’s eyes so that he could see horses of fire and chariots of fire everywhere upon the mountain! (vv. 16-17, TLB)

Lessons Learned

(1) Prayer is valuable. As Elisha prayed, God heard and answered his petitions. We can expect God to listen and answer, as we come to Jesus desperate for Him.

If I had known of any sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened to me. But God has listened; he has heard my prayer (Ps. 66:18-19, NCV).

(2) We need not be fearful, for God is with us. If only, we saw God’s vast army fighting for us. God loves us, and designed us to be in a devoted relationship with Him through Jesus Christ who endured much for our sake.

Friend, Run to Jesus

Oh friend, the Bible says much about God’s overwhelming love for us and His protection. Let’s choose to run toward our Lord Jesus Christ together, and take notice of the good things God will do.

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still (Exodus 14:14, NIV).

Whoever goes to the Lord for safety, whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty, can say to him, “You are my defender and protector. You are my God; in you I trust (Psalm 91:1-2, GNT).”

Friend, stay nearer to our Lord Jesus the Christ. He is the One where we can turn. He is our Savior who keeps pursuing us, even going to the cross to take away our sins and making us right with the Father. His resurrection power reminds us of the great things God can do!
